Trading & Economy

Gold, goods, and commerce — everything you need to know about the economy of Vorlia.

1. Economy Overview

Gold is the primary currency in Vorlia. Every transaction in the game world revolves around gold, whether you are buying from an NPC vendor, selling loot, or trading with fellow players. There are several ways to earn gold and spend it.

Sources of Gold
  • Monster Loot — Defeated monsters drop gold and items that can be sold
  • Selling Items — Sell unwanted equipment and collectables to NPC shops
  • Player Trading — Exchange items and gold directly with other players
  • Auction House — List items for sale on the global auction house for gold or barter

Gold flows through the economy via multiple channels: player-to-player trades, NPC shop transactions, and the auction house. Understanding these systems will help you maximize your earnings and acquire the gear you need.

2. Player Trading

Vorlia features a secure player-to-player trading system that allows two players to exchange items and gold directly. The system is designed with safeguards to prevent scams and accidental trades.

How Trading Works

To initiate a trade, target another player and open a trade request. Once both players are in the trade window, each side can place items and gold into their respective trade slots. The trade only completes when both players explicitly accept and lock in their offers.

Trade Process
  • Step 1: Open a trade request with the target player
  • Step 2: Both players place items and/or gold into the trade window
  • Step 3: Both players review the offered items
  • Step 4: Both players must accept and lock the trade
  • Step 5: A trade pending timer counts down before the exchange finalizes

Trade Safety

  • Dual Confirmation Both players must accept and lock the trade before it completes
  • Pending Timer A countdown timer runs after both players lock, allowing a final review
  • Cancel Anytime Either player can cancel or abort the trade at any time before both lock
  • Item & Gold Exchange Trade supports both items and gold in a single transaction
Tip
Always double-check the items in the trade window before locking your side. Once both players have locked, the trade pending timer will begin and the exchange cannot be undone after it completes.

3. NPC Shops

NPC shops are vendor stalls run by non-player characters throughout the world. These shops allow you to buy supplies and equipment, or sell unwanted items for gold. Shop NPCs are designated vendors throughout the game world.

Shop Details

  • Total Shops 20 shops in the game world
  • Inventory Capacity Up to 100 items per shop
  • Shop Name Length Up to 25 characters
  • Price Markup Each shop has a price modifier that adjusts buy/sell prices

Buying Items

Interact with a shop NPC to browse their inventory. Select an item to view its stats and price. The purchase price is influenced by the shop's price modifier markup — some shops may charge more or less than others for the same item.

Selling Items

You can sell items from your backpack to any NPC shop. The gold you receive is determined by the item's base value modified by the shop's price modifier. Not all items can be sold — items with the No Sell flag cannot be sold to shops.

Tip
Different shops may have different price modifiers. Shop around to find the best prices when buying or selling. A lower markup means cheaper purchases and better sell prices.

4. Auction House

The Auction House is a global marketplace where players can list items for sale to the entire server population. It supports both gold-based listings and barter (item-for-item) trades. To access the auction house, you must be near an Auctioneer NPC.

Listing Fees & Limits

Parameter Value
Gold Listing Fee 5% of the listed gold price
Barter Listing Fee 50 gold flat fee
Minimum Gold Price 1 gold
Maximum Gold Price 999,999,999 gold
Max Active Listings 20 per player

Listing Durations

When creating a listing, you choose how long it remains active on the auction house. There are three duration options:

Duration Description
12 hours Short listing — ideal for high-demand items
24 hours Standard listing — balanced exposure time
48 hours Extended listing — maximum visibility for niche items

Gold Auctions vs. Barter Auctions

The auction house supports two types of listings:

  • Gold Auction — Set a gold price for your item. Buyers pay the listed amount in gold. A 5% listing fee is charged upfront.
  • Barter Auction — List an item and specify what item(s) you want in return. Other players can make barter offers. A flat 50 gold listing fee is charged.

Searching & Browsing

The auction house provides robust search and filtering tools to help you find exactly what you need:

Search Features
  • Filter by Item Family — Weapon, Armor, Collectable, Useable, Container
  • Filter by Item Type — Narrow results within a family
  • Search by Name — Find specific items by name
  • Sort by Price — Ascending or descending gold price
  • Sort by Name — Alphabetical ordering
  • Sort by Time — Newest or oldest listings first
  • Pagination — 20 results per page for easy browsing

Auction Rules

Restrictions
  • You cannot buy your own listing
  • Items with the No Auction flag cannot be listed
  • You must be near an Auctioneer NPC to access the auction house
  • Expired or purchased items are delivered via the mail system

5. Mail System

The mail system is closely linked to the auction house and serves as the delivery mechanism for completed trades, expired listings, and item/gold transfers. To access your mail, you must be near a Mailbox NPC.

Mail Details

  • Sender Name Each mail shows the name of the sender or "Auction House" for system mail
  • Subject Line A subject describing the contents of the mail
  • Item Attachments Mail can contain item attachments from trades or expired listings
  • Gold Attachments Mail can contain gold from completed auction sales
  • Read/Unread Tracking Unread mail is highlighted; read mail is marked as seen
  • Expiry Mail expires after 30 days — claim attachments before then

Claiming Attachments

When you receive mail with item or gold attachments, you must manually claim them from the mail interface. Items are placed into your backpack and gold is added to your balance. If your backpack is full, you will not be able to claim item attachments until you free up space.

Caution
Mail expires after 30 days. Any unclaimed items or gold attached to expired mail will be permanently lost. Check your mailbox regularly to avoid losing valuable auction proceeds or returned items.

6. Item Restrictions

Certain items in Vorlia carry restriction flags that limit how they can be transferred or disposed of. These flags are set on specific items to preserve game balance and prevent certain powerful or quest-related items from being freely circulated.

Flag Effect Blocked Actions
No Auction Cannot be listed on the auction house Auction House listing
No Trade Cannot be traded with other players Player-to-player trade
No Sell Cannot be sold to NPC shops NPC shop sell
No Drop Cannot be dropped on the ground Dropping from inventory
Note
An item can have multiple restriction flags at the same time. For example, a quest reward might be flagged with both No Trade and No Auction, making it completely bound to the player who obtained it. Always check an item's properties before assuming you can trade or sell it.
