Skills
Skills in Vorlia grow through use: swing a sword and your Swords skill rises; mine ore and your Mining skill climbs. There is no point allocation — your character becomes better at what you actually do.
The Skill List
| # | Skill | Category | Raised by |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Unarmed | Combat | Fighting bare-handed |
| 1 | Swords | Combat | Fighting with a sword |
| 2 | Axes | Combat | Fighting with an axe |
| 3 | Blunts | Combat | Fighting with a blunt weapon |
| 4 | Polearms | Combat | Fighting with a polearm |
| 15 | Mining | Trade | Mining ore with a pick |
| 16 | Blacksmithing | Trade | Smelting and forging |
The system supports up to 30 skill slots per character; the remaining slots are reserved for future skills. Every race trains every skill equally — there are no racial skill limits.
Progression
- Combat skills gain experience equal to the combat experience you
earn, credited to the skill of your equipped weapon (Unarmed if none).
- Trade skills gain experience per successful action — mining a
vein, smelting a bar, forging an item. Blacksmithing craft experience is multiplied by (1 + INT/100).
- Your weapon skill feeds directly into damage:
damage × (1 + skill/100 + STR/200) — training your weapon skill is the most reliable damage increase in the game.
Skill Cap and Experience
The skill cap is 105. Combat and trade skills share the same curve to level 100, then diverge — the last five combat levels are much steeper. Cumulative milestones:
| Level | Total XP | Level | Combat | Trade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 10,000 | 100 | 80,000,000 | 80,000,000 |
| 25 | 200,000 | 101 | 110,000,000 | 100,000,000 |
| 50 | 1,900,000 | 103 | 200,000,000 | 140,000,000 |
| 80 | 10,000,000 | 105 | 330,000,000 | 180,000,000 |
Item Requirements
Equipment can require minimum stats (STR/DEX/CON/INT), character level, a specific skill level, or reputation — and reputation requirements come in both directions, some items demanding standing at or above a mark, others at or below it. A high-tier sword may need Swords 50; an advanced pick may need Mining 30.
Pinned Skills and Quick Slots
- Pin up to 5 skills to floating bars showing name, level, and a
live experience bar. Pin what you're training and watch it fill. Pinned bars are draggable.
- 5 quick slots (keys 1–5): hover an item in your backpack and press
a number to assign it; press the number to use it instantly. Works for useable items and consumables.
