Mail & Auction
Send and receive items through the mail system, and trade on the global auction house — Vorlia's player-driven marketplace.
1. Mail System Overview
The mail system in Vorlia is the delivery backbone for the auction house. When an auction completes, expires, or an offer is accepted, the resulting items and gold are delivered to the recipient's mailbox. To access your mail, you must be near a Mailbox NPC.
- Access Requirement Must be near a Mailbox NPC
- Mail Expiry 30 days from delivery
- Attachments Optional item and/or gold per mail
- Unread Tracking Unread count is tracked and displayed
- Connected System Auction House (completed trades, expired listings)
Mail is primarily generated by the auction house system. When you sell an item, the gold proceeds are mailed to you. When you purchase an item, it is delivered to your mailbox. Expired and cancelled listings also return items via mail.
2. Mail Details
Each mail message contains several pieces of information that help you identify its contents and status at a glance.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Sender Name | The name of the player or system that sent the mail (e.g., "Auction House") |
| Subject | A brief description of the mail's purpose or contents |
| Item Attachment | An optional item included with the mail (from trades, expired listings, etc.) |
| Gold Attachment | An optional gold amount included with the mail (from completed sales) |
| Read / Unread | Tracks whether you have opened and viewed the mail |
| Claimed / Unclaimed | Tracks whether you have collected the attached items and gold |
| Expiry | Mail expires 30 days after delivery |
Unread mail is highlighted in your mailbox interface, and an unread count indicator lets you know how many new messages are waiting. Once you open a mail, it is marked as read.
3. Claiming Attachments
When you receive mail with an item or gold attachment, you must manually claim the contents from the mail interface. Items are placed into your backpack and gold is added directly to your balance. If your backpack is full, you will not be able to claim item attachments until you free up space.
Once you have successfully claimed all attachments from a mail, the mail's status changes from unclaimed to claimed. Only mail that is both read and claimed can be deleted.
4. Managing Mail
The mail interface provides the following actions for managing your messages:
| Action | Requirement | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Open / Read | Unread mail | View the mail contents; marks the mail as read |
| Claim | Unclaimed attachments | Collect attached items and/or gold into your inventory |
| Delete | Read + Claimed | Remove the mail from your mailbox permanently |
5. Auction House Overview
The Auction House is Vorlia's global player-to-player marketplace. Players can list items for sale to the entire server population, either for gold or through barter trades. To access the auction house, you must be near an Auctioneer NPC.
- Access Requirement Must be near an Auctioneer NPC
- Auction Types Gold auctions and Barter auctions
- Max Active Listings 20 per player
- Max Active Offers 10 per player
- Results Per Page 20
- Delivery Method Items and gold delivered via mail
The auction house connects buyers and sellers across the entire server. When a transaction completes — whether through a direct purchase or an accepted offer — the resulting items and gold are delivered to both parties through the mail system.
6. Listing Fees & Limits
Creating an auction listing requires paying a fee upfront. The fee type depends on whether you are listing for gold or for barter. Fees are non-refundable, even if the listing expires without a sale.
| Parameter | Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gold Listing Fee | 5% of the listed gold price | Deducted from your gold when listing |
| Barter Listing Fee | 50 gold flat fee | Fixed cost regardless of item value |
| Minimum Gold Price | 1 gold | Lowest allowed price for gold auctions |
| Maximum Gold Price | 999,999,999 gold | Highest allowed price for gold auctions |
| Max Active Listings | 20 per player | Total simultaneous sell listings |
| Max Active Offers | 10 per player | Total simultaneous buy/barter offers |
7. Listing Durations
When creating a listing, you choose how long it remains active on the auction house. There are three duration options to suit different selling strategies:
| Duration | Best For | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 12 hours | High-demand items | Short listing for items that sell quickly; minimizes wait time |
| 24 hours | General items | Standard duration with balanced exposure across time zones |
| 48 hours | Niche or expensive items | Extended visibility for items that need more time to find a buyer |
When a listing expires without being purchased, the item is automatically returned to the seller's mailbox. The listing fee is not refunded on expiry.
8. Auction Types
The auction house supports two distinct types of listings, each serving a different trading purpose:
Gold Auctions
In a gold auction, you set a fixed gold price for your item. Any player can purchase the item by paying the listed gold amount. The gold proceeds (minus the 5% listing fee already paid upfront) are delivered to the seller via mail upon completion.
- Listing Fee 5% of the listed gold price
- Price Range 1 – 999,999,999 gold
- Payment Buyer pays the full listed gold amount
- Delivery Item delivered to buyer via mail; gold delivered to seller via mail
Barter Auctions
In a barter auction, you list an item and indicate that you are looking for items in trade rather than gold. Other players can browse your barter listing and make offers with their own items. You can then review, accept, or reject incoming offers.
- Listing Fee 50 gold flat fee
- Offers Other players submit item offers on your listing
- Accept / Reject Seller reviews and chooses which offer to accept
- Delivery Traded items delivered to both parties via mail
9. Search & Filtering
The auction house provides a robust set of search and filtering tools to help you find exactly the items you are looking for among all active listings.
Filters
| Filter | Options | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Item Family | Weapon, Armor, Collectable, Useable | Narrow results to a specific item family |
| Item Type | Varies by family | Further refine by specific weapon or armor type |
| Item Name | Free text search | Search for items by name |
Sorting Options
| Sort By | Description |
|---|---|
| Price | Sort listings by gold price (ascending or descending) |
| Name | Sort listings alphabetically by item name |
| Time Remaining | Sort by how much time is left before the listing expires |
Search results are paginated at 20 results per page, allowing you to browse through large numbers of listings without overwhelming the interface.
10. Auction Features
The auction house interface provides several views and actions for both buyers and sellers:
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Sell Offers Listing | Browse all items currently listed for sale by other players |
| Buy Offers Listing | Browse all active buy offers from other players |
| My Active Listings | View and manage your own current sell listings |
| Make an Offer | Submit a gold or item offer on an existing listing |
| Accept / Reject Offers | Review incoming offers on your listings and accept or reject them |
| Cancel Listing | Remove your own listing from the auction house (item returned via mail) |
When you cancel a listing, the item is returned to your mailbox. The listing fee that was paid when creating the listing is not refunded.
11. Auction Rules
The auction house enforces several rules to maintain fair trading and prevent abuse:
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| No Self-Purchase | You cannot buy or make offers on your own listings |
| No-Auction Items | Items with the No Auction flag cannot be listed |
| Gold Check | Insufficient gold is verified before any purchase or listing fee payment |
| Action Cooldown | A cooldown is enforced between auction actions to prevent spam |
| Search Cooldown | A cooldown is enforced between search queries |
| Auctioneer Required | You must be near an Auctioneer NPC to access the auction house |
| Mail Delivery | All completed trades deliver items and gold via the mail system |
12. Tips & Strategy
Make the most of the mail and auction house systems with these practical tips:
- Check mail regularly — Items and gold expire after 30 days. Make it a habit to visit a Mailbox NPC frequently.
- Compare shop vs. auction prices — NPC shops have fixed prices with a price modifier markup. The auction house may offer better deals from other players, or you may get more gold selling there.
- Use filters effectively — Narrow your search by item family and type to find specific items quickly instead of browsing through pages of results.
- Price competitively — Check what similar items are listed for before setting your price. Competitive pricing leads to faster sales and avoids wasting gold on listing fees for unsold items.
- Consider barter for expensive trades — If you do not have enough gold for a purchase, barter auctions let you trade items directly. The flat 50 gold fee is much cheaper than the 5% gold listing fee on high-value items.
- Use short durations for popular items — High-demand items often sell within 12 hours. Save the 48-hour duration for niche or expensive items that need more exposure.
- Mind the listing limits — With a maximum of 20 active listings and 10 active offers, prioritize your most valuable trades.
